NewStAnd 10th June 2017Dear Parents, Carers and Community
Welcome back after what I hope was a lovely half-term break for everyone. A few very important safety notes and reminders to start the last half-term:
We have put a poster on the inner entrance door stating that STAFF ONLY are permitted to allow access for adults into the school. We have a strict safeguarding code to sign visitors in and out, including those who are familiar to us. This enables us to monitor who has been on the premises for fire/evacuation safety and the safeguarding of our most precious cargo…our children. . We therefore do not allow children or parents to open the door for visitors, known or unknown. During the Breakfast Club hours, the children will also be admitted by staff only. This message is intentionally a strong one in the current climate and I appreciate your support on this.
During the morning arrivals. I always look forward to welcoming the children to school and am proud of the polite way children walk into school and politely say 'good morning'. The arrival of buses adds potential risk to children's safety. I have seen children being dropped off and children walking behind buses to walk onto the playground. This is extremely dangerous. I would be grateful therefore if parents would park within the designated areas only and escort their children across the car park. Children are not permitted to cross the car park alone:
PERMITTED PARKING AREAS: The car parking bays marked by white lines.
NON-PERMITTED PARKING AREAS: Yellow cross-hatches and coned area directly in front of the school building. Please do not double-park.
A member of staff is always on duty from 8.30am (usually myself). We do not have any supervision before this time and strongly discourage children being left alone on the playground.
On a positive note we have had a lovely week so far. We converted to a Multi-Academy Trust (SAST) on 1 June and on Friday we welcomed our new Executive Headteacher Mr S Hiller to St. Andrew's. Mr Hillier had a lovely day talking to staff and children about our school. He was impressed by the behaviour of the children and the welcoming ethos of the school. This is indeed a great start to our new collaborative adventure. You will receive a letter this week, giving more details of our new SAST.
MILE FOR MOSAIC fundraising - fantastic funds totalling £1,582,60 were raised. This goes to show the strength of the ST. Andrew's community. Thank you all. The PTFA will receive half of this to provide musical instruments for our playground project.
Please note the Sports Day date below Friday 7 July. We will give you further information soon.

HOT SCHOOL MEALS
As parents you can access the deadline dates in several ways to ensure that you do not miss the deadline and that your child has the meal offered to them by the school. The deadline date is usually in the last week of every month but is open for ordering for weeks before this.
1. Go to our website and look under Parents - Parents information- Hot Lunches
Here is the link for this page
On this page you will find the link to Thornford School deadlines for the next three months.
2. Go to the Thornford Primary School website directly and see the deadline dates, link below:
See our newsletter and deadline on our Facebook Group which echoes what is published on the school website. If you would like to join our Facebook Group, please see Moira Lyons Montgomery in the office. Our website has a parent's calendar with Hot Meals deadlines published. We regret that we cannot order meals that miss the deadline as Thornford will not provide meals after the date. We urge you to order before the deadline and we wish our children to enjoy the meals offered to them. Thank you for your co-operation and support on this matter.
